Smiths Group and Morpho Detection Merge in a $710 million acquisition

Philip Ingram from SecurityNewsDesk reported in its February edition that there had been over $24 billion of acquisitions and mergers in the first 2 months of 2016.  Those acquisitions were primarily in the physical security market but it seems that the counter terror and transport security markets are consolidating too. Smiths Group plc has entered into an agreement to acquire Morpho Detection, a California-based detection and security solutions company, from Safran. for a sum of $710 million

As the number of drones - otherwise known as UAVs (Unmanned Aerial Vehicles), UASs (Unmanned Aerial Systems), or Remotely Piloted Aerial Systems (RPAS) - in our skies continues to soar - both for commercial and leisure use - it is perhaps not too surprising that we are seeing more and more countries considering enhanced regulation or, at the very least, more coordination and consistency of approach across borders. Certainly where the Middle East is concerned the UAE is very much at the forefront of efforts here having brought in new rules to regulate the use of drones last year, a move which has generally been welcomed.
