Honeywell: Why Security Strategies Must Adapt To The Retail Revolution

Posted by Richard McKeon on Jul 10, 2017 10:00:00 AM

Honeywell Security and Fire EMEA Channel Marketing Leader, James Somerville-Smith, comments on the changing face of retail banking, the future of the UK high streets and why video analytics could play a crucial role in securing both the banks of the future, while helping bricks and mortar retailers move with the times.

“While brighter, modern, more dynamic banks are much more welcoming and enticing for an increasing number of prospective customers, they also present challenges for the security team.”

“In many organisations, the location of security cameras and alarm setting procedures haven’t changed for years, even decades.”

“Invest in higher-specification cameras in order to better pinpoint the perpetrators of theft”

The UK banking sector is changing. A recent report by PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) revealed that more than half of us are using more than one bank, including so-called ‘challenger’ banks that may not even have a high street presence. This result may have sent a chill down the spines of retail banks everywhere, which are used to being their one-stop shop for loyal customers. However, it’s not the end for the high street. The study also revealed that the availability of bank branches is still a crucial concern for consumers – with 68 per cent believing a branch was essential when opening a new current account, compared to just 25 per cent who favoured a mobile app.  It begs the question, how can retail banks leverage their bricks and mortar presence effectively to deliver a competitive advantage?

Tim Compston, Guest Features Writer at Security News Desk, draws a picture of the latest moves in the world of integration for IP-based security systems and more.

Historically, when security solutions were deployed they tended to sit quietly in their own isolated silos and not communicate with any other elements. Today, thankfully, the situation has been transformed beyond all recognition as access control, CCTV, and other critical elements are being brought together through solutions like PSIM (Physical Security Information Management), CSIM (Converged Security Information Management), and other unified platforms. As we see an acceleration of these moves, what are the opportunities and challenges that come from ever more connected security? Is an open approach better for integration rather than going proprietary? What about the dangers of operators suffering data overload?

Following the exposure of Christopher Steele, the man known for working up the dirty dossier on President Donald Trump, Security News Desk contributor Nick Kochan ponders the pitfalls of hiring a private investigator.

Private espionage is undoubtedly a booming business. It is also one that we hear little about, until a private eye comes out the woodwork that is. Then the media are up in arms and investigations of the private investigators are all the rage until another ‘spooky’, and perhaps more exciting, topic diverts their interest.

Fail To Plan Your Marketing, Plan To Fail Your Investment

Posted by Richard McKeon on Dec 8, 2016 11:22:50 AM

Content marketing is all about doing several different things for your brand, generating leads, ensuring brand awareness and acquiring customers. However, it is a complex business and to get the most out of it, it must be planned.
